Coverage Change for COVID-19 At-Home Over-the-Counter Tests

The Vermont Medicaid program will no longer cover over-the-counter COVID-19 tests after September 30, 2024.

Effective October 1, 2024, the Vermont Medicaid program will discontinue coverage for at-home COVID-19 antigen tests in the pharmacy benefit program. Coverage will continue for COVID-19 tests administered by Medicaid enrolled providers including at a doctor’s office, clinic, or hospital.  

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 required a coverage period for all types of COVID-19 tests, including at-home COVID-19 tests, from March 11, 2021, through September 30, 2024. This was submitted to CMS as a time limited State Plan Amendment (SPA# 23-0013) and noticed in GCR 23-027

This proposed change is open for public comment through September 24, 2024. Comments may be sent to:
