Quality Management Activities

The Department of Vermont Health Access (DVHA) is a large department that includes many divisions and programs. The DVHA tries to coordinate all of our quality management activities.

Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement (QA/QI)

All DVHA employees play an important part in quality assurance & improvement, as outlined in the Vermont Medicaid Quality Management Plan.

However, much of the formal quality management work is done through 3 committees:

Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs)

Practice guidelines help doctors and patients to make decisions about health care for certain conditions. 

Guidelines improve quality of care by:

  • Improving service delivery
  • Standardizing treatment
  • Lowering treatment costs

Results Based Accountability (RBA)

RBA is a tool that can be used at two levels.  RBA can be used to look at big picture outcomes at a population level. 

RBA can also be used to look at small picture outcomes of program performance.

Agency Improvement Model (AIM)

AIM is a simple tool used for process improvement.  Staff reviews a process, then recommends and makes a change.

Staff uses data to show if the change was an improvement or not.
