Payment Error Rate Measurement (PERM)
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) developed the Payment Error Rate Measurement (PERM) program in response to the Improper Payment Information Act, 2002 [IPIA, Public Law 107–300,] enacted November 26, 2002. The program examines eligibility decisions and payments to providers for Medicaid and Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for accuracy.
The 2016 PERM cycle is Vermont’s next review of provider payments which will occur October 2015 through the fall of 2017. The 2016 PERM cycle will review payments to providers during federal fiscal year 2016 (October 2015 - September 2016). Due to the newness of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), an eligibility review will not occur during the 2016 PERM cycle.
Providers have contacted us expressing concerns that CNI Advantage LLC has not contacted them regarding their claim(s) for the PERM audit. We are aware of this delay and are in contact with CMS. The 30 day timeline for Vermont Medicaid providers selected for the audit begins when you receive a letter of notification from CNI Advantage LLC, not with the letter you receive from Vermont Medicaid.
